On September 24-25, 2024, COCUS, alongside Panasonic, attended Smart Digital Ports of the Future in Rotterdam. This premier event focused on technologies shaping the port industry, including digital twins, AI, IoT, and autonomous solutions.
At SDP, the latest technologies for setting up a smart port were presented and discussed. COCUS was on site together with Panasonic TOUGHBOOK. The panel discussions have been a great opportunity to stay ahead of industry trends, while networking at the stand allowed us to share our joint expertise in transforming port operations with the latest digital solutions.
Harnessing the power of IoT, 5G and digital solutions for smart ports
Private 5G networks played a central role in various panel discussions. They are one of the key technologies for ports, as they are transforming the maritime industry by enabling smarter, better connected port operations and offering higher bandwidth, low latency, and improved reliability. IoT devices and digital twins were other important topics at SDP 24. They can improve transparency and decision-making in ports and enable port authorities to monitor operations, locate goods and vehicles and optimise processes based on forecasts, thereby reducing emissions, time and costs.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a topic that is currently finding its way into every event for good reason. For ports, AI plays a crucial role in vessel operations by enabling better coordination between water and landside processes. The potential of AI in ports goes beyond operational improvements, as it also enhances Just-In-Time (JIT) scheduling and supply chain integration.
